Beattie Air Delivers HVAC Upgrade for ARA’s N Block Renovation

We’re proud to have successfully delivered the full mechanical upgrade for the ARA Institute of Canterbury’s N Block renovation project, working in partnership with Farrell Construction. This project focused on the fitout of Levels 5 and 6, part of an ongoing modernisation of the central city campus to create upgraded, energy-efficient learning and working environments.

About the Project

The N Block renovation formed part of ARA’s investment in modernising their inner-city facilities. The project involved significant internal refurbishment, including the removal of existing radiator systems, new internal fitout, and the introduction of efficient air conditioning to better serve teaching spaces, administration offices, and student areas.

Working closely with Farrell Construction, Beattie Air played a key role in supporting the construction programme with seamless delivery of mechanical services over the typically disruptive Christmas and New Year period.

Mechanical Scope and Equipment

Our scope included the supply, installation, and commissioning of modern mechanical systems to suit the upgraded layout. Key highlights included:

• 2x Daikin VRV Systems: Installed to provide flexible, zone-specific climate control across two levels, ideal for variable room usage and occupancy.

• Mechanical Modifications: Removal and replacement of ageing radiator units and associated system upgrades.

• Condensate Pump Wiring: Installation and integration of nine internal condensate pumps, supporting effective operation of the new systems.

These installations were designed and delivered to align with Beattie Air’s high-performance standards and ARA’s expectations for energy efficiency, reliability, and low ongoing maintenance.

Holiday Period Delivery

The project was completed during the 2024 Christmas and New Year shutdown — a period that typically limits progress across the industry. Despite this, our team maintained full momentum and resource availability to meet Farrell Construction’s programme milestones without disruption.
