Overview

Beattie Air was engaged to deliver the full mechanical HVAC scope for the major redevelopment and extension of Mitre 10 MEGA Timaru. This project, commissioned by Envision Eighty20, involved a significant upgrade to the existing retail footprint, including a new garden centre, expanded retail hall, café area, and updated back-of-house facilities.

Our team provided a comprehensive climate control solution designed to enhance comfort and operational efficiency across the newly expanded premises, which now ranks among the largest Mitre 10 stores in the region.

Scope of Works

Our mechanical installation included:

• Mitsubishi Electric High Wall Split Systems

• Daikin Packaged Rooftop Unit for the retail floor

• Fantech fans and OPA condensate drainage systems

• Avon Electric Duct Heaters for supplemental heating

• Full BMS integration for precise building climate control

• Holyoake Grilles and inline filtration systems

• Custom ductwork including internally and externally insulated supply and return ducting

The café mechanical zone also featured dedicated extract, supply, and return systems for optimal airflow and indoor air quality.

Challenges & Execution

The scale and complexity of this build required careful staging and planning. Coordinating across multiple site zones, we ensured all systems aligned with the architectural and services layout—particularly important for the ceiling-mounted HVAC across the garden centre and retail extension. Precision routing of refrigerant and condensate pipework was critical in minimising disruption and maintaining system efficiency.

Additionally, our integration of the electric duct heaters into the rooftop air handling system delivered fast-response heating, crucial for customer comfort in colder months.

Outcome

The project was completed on time and to a high standard, reinforcing Beattie Air’s capability in large-scale retail mechanical delivery. Our systems now support year-round temperature control for staff and shoppers, helping Mitre 10 Timaru offer a comfortable and energy-efficient retail experience.
