Overview

Beattie Air was awarded the mechanical services contract for the Woolworths Nelson Junction development — a high-profile supermarket project located in Stoke, Nelson. Working under Gibbons Naylor and alongside our own internal delivery teams, we successfully completed the HVAC scope on time and within budget in October 2025.

This project demonstrates our ability to deliver major mechanical contracts for large-format retail clients. With in-house project management, regional subcontractor coordination, and advanced control integration, we continue to set the standard for high-performance supermarket HVAC systems across New Zealand.

HVAC System Breakdown

The supermarket and associated office areas required a versatile system capable of managing a range of space conditions, occupant loads, and operational hours. Our team designed and delivered a tailored HVAC package including:

• Hybrid VRF air conditioning system serving the offices and back-of-house areas

• Temperzone packaged AC unit dedicated to the main retail floor

• SmartAir VariSwirl grilles, each with Variable Air Volume (VAV) control for improved airflow responsiveness, comfort, and zoning

• Copeland BMS platform for centralised control and real-time performance monitoring

The system was designed to meet energy efficiency targets, support ease of maintenance, and ensure quiet, reliable operation throughout the facility.

Delivery & Coordination

Our 4070 m² mechanical package was coordinated by Dan Lodge, with key contributions from:

• Our internal AC installation team for full ownership of install quality and timelines

• IES for E4M installation and electrical coordination

• Tasman Sheet Metals for local ducting supply and install

With multiple workstreams running concurrently on site, our ability to maintain strong communication and scheduling discipline ensured seamless delivery. The project was fully commissioned and handed over to programme, with no delays or disruptions.
